PLANTS POISONOUS TO DOGS
There are many plants commonly found in the home garden which could prove lethal to dogs and especially puppies (who chew everything)). A brief summary follows.
Azalea (entire plant)
Paralysis of the muscles, including the heart
Depression of the central nervous system. Sometimes fatal.
Bird Of Paradise (seed pods)
Nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea
Calla Lily (entire plant)
Intense burning and irritation of the mouth and stomach
Daffodil (bulb)
Severe vomiting and diarrhoea, trembling, convulsions and occasionally death.
Daphne (entire bulb)
Burning and ulceration of the stomach and intestines, bloody vomiting and diarrhoea
English Ivy (leaves and berries)
General excitement, difficulty breathing and coma
Holly (berries)
Vomiting, diarrhoea, and weakness and collapse
Iris (leaves, roots and fleshy portions)
Severe digestive upset
Jerusalem Cherry (berries)
Vomiting, diarrhoea and collapse
Lantana (berries)
Gastrointestinal irritation, muscular weakness and circulatory problems
Oleander (entire plant)
Nausea, depression, bloody diarrhoea, cardiac failure and paralysis
Poinsettia (leaves and stem)
Diarrhoea, abdominal cramps and delirium.
Sap can cause skin irritation and, if rubbed in eyes, blindness
Privet (entire plant)
Bloody diarrhoea, vomiting, severe irritation of digestive tract and general nervous symptoms
Rhubarb (leaves)
Vomiting, severe abdominal pain, muscle cramps, convulsions and death
Wisteria (entire plant)
Severe vomiting, abdominal pain and diarrhoea
Yesterday Today Tomorrow (whole plant)
