  • David Shaw B.V.Sc.(Hons) M.R.C.V.S. David received his primary schooling in Sydney, Gladstone and Bundaberg, and secondary education at C.E.G.S. in Brisbane. Undecided between a career in Medicine or Vet Science, he spent two years travelling between Australia and Asia in the merchant navy. He saw the light in 1972, and commenced studying veterinary science at the University of Queensland, graduating with honours in 1977, and getting married to Anne along the way. After spending two years in various small animal practices in the United Kingdom, David and Anne purchased the Ballina Vet in December 1979, and believe it was the best decision that they have made. David is interested in and enjoys all aspects of small animal medicine and surgery, and firmly believes that you learn something new every day whilst working. A keen sportsman in his younger days, David now enjoys the beach, fishing and watching sporting events and horse-racing.

  • Anne Shaw B.V.Sc. M.R.C.V.S. Anne attended St. Margaret's school in Brisbane. As one of four daughters of child psychiatrists, Anne was encouraged to study medicine at the University of Queensland, before switching to Vet Science in 1973. After 32 years in small animal practice Anne still enjoys interacting with clients and their pets as much as ever, and looks forward to the daily challenges that a career as a vet provide. Her special interests include internal medicine and behavioural problems. Anne and David have two adult children Michael and Louise who live and work in Brisbane and Sydney. Her youngest sister Susan is also a vet and is principal of Ferny Hills Vet Hospital in Brisbane. Anne and David live at Lennox Head and in her spare time Anne enjoys walking their two Staffies and reading.


  • Jayne Wilson C.V.N. Jayne was raised on a farm at Tuncester and attended Richmond River High School in Lismore. After working in various jobs in the district, she commenced work as a veterinary nurse at the Lismore Vet Clinic in 1991 whilst studying for her Certificate in Veterinary Nursing at Ithaca Tafe in Brisbane. She progressed to the position of Head Nurse at Lismore Vet Clinic. Jayne is married to Rod and they have two sons attending primary school in Ballina. During her time at Shaw's Veterinary Hospital, she has become an indespensable member of the team. An extremely dedicated and proficient nurse, Jayne has a genuine love of, and caring nature toward all animals. She is also a lively addition to staff Christmas parties.

  • Heather Gillies Heather was raised on a sugar cane and beef cattle farm at Uralba and attended Alstonville High School. She has completed first year Veterinary Science at Charles Sturt University at Wagga Wagga and worked fulltime as a nurse at the practice in 2010, before recommencing her veterinary studies at University of Queensland in 2011. Heather continues to work with us on the weekends and during uni holidays. In her spare time, she enjoys riding her horses, helping out on the family farm and spending time with her dogs.

 

  • Tori Groom hails from a small Suffolk village in the UK. She was constantly surrounded by cats dogs and horses as a child, and graduated from University with a degree in English literature. Tori has been an Australian resident for five years, and is currentl undertaking a Tafe course in equine nursing at tyhe Trenayr campus (Grafton), and is deciding whether to pursue veterinary nursing, or return to university and study vet science on a full time basis. While pondering her future Tori has become a valuable staff member at the hospital, and her enthusiasm and bubbly personality are greatly valued by us all. Tori lives with her Australian boyfriend, two dogs, a horse, a cat and two rescued chickens.
